Dark Places Film Review The Review Geek

Having been written by the same author who wrote Gone Girl and this coming after the critically acclaimed film, Dark Places stays surprisingly true to the book. Its a grim, dark tale that certainly won’t be for everyone, especially considering how uncomfortably realistic it gets at times and as a mystery it keeps the suspense high until the end of the film. Unfortunately for Dark Places, the real joy in the book came with the masterful writing and its quick pace but here it just doesn’t translate to film....

Dear Ex Netflix Film Review The Review Geek

A Beautifully Composed Indie Film Competently acted and dripping in aesthetic splendor, Taiwanese Netflix Original Dear Ex is a character driven examination of our attitude toward relationships. With a split focus between 3 predominant characters, lingering shots and deliberately timed bites of dialogue does make the film feel more slow paced than it perhaps should. Despite its flaws, Dear Ex makes for an artistic and absorbing watch nonetheless. The film begins with the crux of the drama as outraged mum Sangilan unleashes an explosion of anger at free-spirited male “mistress” Jay....

Designated Survivor 60 Days Season 1 Episode 14 Recap Review The Review Geek

Explosive Drama One of the things I love with a politically charged drama like this is the way all the pieces slowly build toward the climax. When handled correctly, the pay-off can feel incredibly rewarding and deliver emotionally charged twists and turns that feel so much more powerful because of the strong foundation set before it. Designated Survivor: 60 Days is a drama that perfectly captures this in its latest episode as we fast approach the end-game of this Korean drama....

Designated Survivor 60 Days Season 1 Episode 15 Recap Review

Penultimate Pressure for President Park Now on its penultimate episode, Designated Survivor: 60 Days returns for a dramatic slice of politically charged tension. As we near the end of this epic, 16 episode series, 60 Days has done a pretty good job spinning the American series into a Korean adaptation, with enough deviation in the plot line to nestle this nicely into Asian politics. It may not be the best series out there, especially given how rigidly the plot follows its America cousin, there’s enough here to make for an enjoyable watch nonetheless....

Dick Johnson Is Dead Netflix Movie Review The Review Geek

A Poignant and Joyous Exploration Of Death Alzheimer’s is a nasty disease. It’s a horrible, parasitic illness that eats away at its host from the inside out until there’s nothing left. I’ve seen this first-hand with my Grandmother, having deteriorated to become a shell of the person she once was. The last memory I have of her is sat as a frail old woman clutching her false teeth; a far cry from the strong, bubbly woman I’d known growing up....

Dinner Mate K Drama Episodes 19 20 Recap And Review

A Quartet Of Quarrels Dinner Mate has been quite the surprise this year and the chemistry between the two leads has really helped drive this one forward. Although the show has steered far more into melodramatic waters with its quartet of lead characters, the romance between Do-Hee and Hae-Kyung is enough to look past some of the comedy being dropped. Episodes 19 and 20 of Dinner Mate begin with Hae-Kyung embracing Do-Hee and the two finally start to open up about their true feelings....

Dogs Of Berlin Netflix Season 1 Review The Review Geek

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzcDBHjHePk Episode Guide V.I.P. Team Clash Home Game Foul Play Offside Derby National Overtime Victory Ceremony Gritty, culturally relevant and incredibly endearing, the trailer for this crime thriller just does not do the show justice, especially with the amount of humour it shows. Split across 10 episodes, Dogs Of Berlin sees Germany on the cusp of a gang war. Tensions between the Turks and Neo Nazis reaches fever pitch and at the heart of this conflict are two troubled police officers, crooked cop Kurt Grimmer (Felix Kramer) and Turkish drug officer Erol Birkan (Fahri Yardim)....

Driveways 2020 Film Review The Review Geek

A Wonderful Slice Of Life Drama Driveways is a wonderful Indie film. It’s one of those pictures that doesn’t do that much different to other slice of life dramas but what it does, it does incredibly well. It’s a film that’ll almost certainly move you when the final credits roll and have you thinking about the different themes for a while after you’ve turned it off. With some deeply moving ideas, a trio of well-cast characters and a third act that hits hard like a hammer blow, Driveways is easily one of the best films of the year....
