Deja Vu There’s a reason German sci-fi Dark is regarded as one of the best Netflix Originals on the platform. The intricate knot of timelines, ideas and challenging time travel concepts are unrivaled in this medium. While 12 Monkeys managed to streamline this into a more mainstream appealing idea, Dark is far more comprehensive and challenging by comparison, eclipsing what Syfy’s underrated series managed to achieve when it was on-air....
The Explosion Designated Survivor: 60 Days does well with its plot and characterisation in the opening episode despite all the usual stock tropes you’d expect from a Korean drama showing up. Expect flashbacks, zoomed-in shots and repeated scenes to dominate the run-time but for the most part, these are worked quite well into the episode. The 75 minute length feels slightly overlong too but despite this, there’s enough here to make for an enjoyable opening episode nonetheless....
This is my letter to the World Episode 4 of Dickinson Season 3 begins with Emily signing a letter bound for Col. Higginson on the front lines. There’s a pretty slick montage here, as we see these letters passed through the country, helping to geographically show the effort to move these across America. When Higginson finally sits down to read the letter, he’s interrupted by Henry showing for a job interview....
The Dragon & The IP Address Following on from last week’s episode chock full of plot development and interesting background surrounding the mysterious Clara, this week takes a step back from that as our group are split up once more and find an array of clues to link them back to the same apartment building at the end. While the journey itself is intriguing enough to keep you watching, in a way this actually feels like a bit of a bottle episode as we don’t learn an awful lot about any of our characters that we didn’t already know....
A Reliable Narrator? Dispatches From Elsewhere is utterly bizarre. This show – presuming the rest of the episodes follow the same surreal path as this – feels like someone looked at Alice In Wonderland and realized it needed to be more abstract and surreal This does make for a somewhat alienating experience and something that may not be for everyone. It’s something that will almost certainly polarize audiences, believing this is being weird just for the sake of it....
Sotto Voce , In A Whisper Episode 10 of Do You Like Brahms begins with Joon-Young and Min-Sung driving up to the restaurant. Min-Sung admits that she knows everything about Song-A. She asks him to keep an eye on her and sees Song-A sitting at the table. Creeping inside, she overhears Song-A’s confession and hurries away as Song-A races after her friend. Min-Sung tells her she didn’t know she used to like Dong-Yun and walks away, calling herself a fool....
Once, Upon Time Episode 3 of Doctor Who Season 13 is a real step back for the series. It’s an unnecessarily convoluted, contrived mess that tries to be cleverer than it actually is. We start the episode with a woman named Bel. With the Dalek Sector growing, maps no longer making sense and everything disrupted, strange swarms of blue, smoky CGI appear to be feasting on survivors. Bel is on the run, determined to escape the Daleks and get back to her lover....
