Past Drama Following last week’s double bill of episodes, Dinner Mate returns with another melodramatic slice of romance as our two leads find themselves unable to shake the ghosts of their past. With lots of interpersonal drama and plenty of talking points, Dinner Mate eases away from its comedic roots and leans much heavier into exploring the past. Episodes 17 and 18 of Dinner Mate begin with Do-Hee and Hae-Kyung deciding to go out for dinner while the rest of 2N Box believe they’re fighting....
Clinging To The Past Dinner Mate returns and picks up right where it left off with the reveal of just who was in Do-Hee’s apartment that night. With this reveal comes the realization that this Korean drama has really settled on its melodramatic tone. Unfortunately those expecting the same lighthearted tones the series begun with will be hard-pressed to find that here. It’s a shame too because there’s certainly a lot to like with this one but the show does have a tendency to fall a little too far into melodrama....
Is This All A Simulation? Is the game over or are our four friends still playing? It’s a big question and one that’s explored through this 45 minute episode as our different characters struggle to return to their lives following the profound impact the game has had on them. The Mystery Deepens One of the biggest gripes I had with Emergence last week was its stark similarities to Stranger Things. From the initial premise down to the climactic car crash at the end, every part of the pilot felt like echoes toward Netflix’s flagship series. Thankfully, Emergence doesn’t feel like Stranger Things this week. With a more intense focus on Piper and the shadowy group trying to abduct her, Emergence delivers a really dramatic and mysterious episode here, one that leaves things hanging in the balance, ready for next week....

There’s also Ben Shakir (Asaif Mandvi), whose expertise with technology counteracts that of David’s spirituality. Of course, these individual characters have their own overarching stories too that help tie everything together....

Hiding In Plane Sight Fear The Walking Dead is one of those strange shows that swings like a pendulum, with differing levels of quality throughout each episode. While parts of this episode are enjoyable, other moments feel unnecessarily slow and worse, just plain bad. There is a nice twist toward the end involving the kids though but the story feels like it’s moving toward a much more predictable outcome, falling into the pitfalls the show was cursed with last year....
Heat Island Phenomenon Episode 6 of Forecasting Love and Weather starts with Ha-Kyung and Si-Woo working together to bring Um into a room upstairs. She keeps quiet about Um’s family issues, although Si-Woo questions why she’s brought him to a motel rather than back home. When one of the women from the motel walks past, touching Si-Woo’s shoulder and hoping to see more of him in the future, things are left on an awkward note....

Lasting 35 years before its eventual lift in 2015, this broad program of regulations and enforcements were put into place to control the size of the country’s growing population. However, China also subsequently saw a spike in the number of orphaned children, as parents favoured birthing sons over daughters. Found is a documentary looking to examine this policy, essentially splitting its run-time into two parts....
