Rick & Meta Morty After a long hiatus, Rick & Morty return in 2020 with a new batch of episodes to consume. With a consistent aesthetic and some wonderfully imaginative ideas, the duo return for another mind-bending episode, this time revolving around the idea of storytelling techniques and meta references. At times the episode does feel a little haphazard and random, but most of this plays into the core theme of the episode so it’s easily to look past....

The Intruder This week I took the plunge and started learning Korean. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while but always put off due to the sheer complexity of the language. However, running in the humid heat and listening to audio tapes, I did pick up some useful tips about the alphabet and the dialect. It’s certainly no easy task. Even 40 minutes in I felt completely overwhelmed but I’m determined to learn this beautiful language....

But in Samaritan, the movie adaptation of a 2014 graphic novel, young Sam (Javon Walton) is sure that Joe (Sylvester Stallone), the garbage collector living in the apartment building opposite him, is Samaritan, a superhero long thought dead after apparently dying in a blast alongside his villainous twin brother Nemesis 25 years earlier....

An atmospheric gem let down by its controls If ever a game was deserving of a remaster, it’s Shadow Man. Originally released way back in 1999 on the PS1, N64, Dreamcast, and Windows, it was a good game (although the Playstation port was a little shoddy), but it seemed to fly under the radar of most gamers. At the time, I remember talking to friends about the game but they were far more interested in Donkey Kong 64, Driver, Final Fantasy VIII and the other big titles of that year....

In order to try and stop this killer once and for all, Kirby teams up with a veteran reporter called Dan....

A Standard Romance Let Down By A Questionable Late Plot Development When it comes to teen romances, Netflix has always been a bit of a mixed bag. After a combination of misfires and surprisingly good films in this category, Sierra Burgess Is A Loser is the latest in a long line of teen romances to try and stake its claim in this crowded genre. Although the film manages to conjure a few surprisingly effective dramatic moments and a realistic depiction of texting’s role in romance, a questionable plot development late on ruins what’s otherwise a pretty average but enjoyable film....

All Aboard Did we really need a serial adaptation of the 2013 sci-fi film Snowpiercer? Probably not but here we are anyway with another small screen adaptation of a big screen blockbuster. To be fair though, this troubled series actually gets off to a pretty good start here, adopting a similar set-up and plenty of scope to flesh out more of its class-divided carriages over the weeks. With a second season already green-lit and a plot that certainly has the scope and promise to deviate from its source material and deliver some interesting twists and turns along the way, Snowpiercer’s future remains obfuscated but there’s certainly room for this one to grow....

Their conversation goes so well that they end up doing a video call. It turns out they work in the same business. She was also present during his presentation earlier that day. They meet each other for a couple of drinks that same night. During their date, the lady keeps receiving calls from her ex-lover and it turns out they work in the same business....

An Overlong But Intriguing Mystery Someday You’ll Return is a great 6 hour game stuffed into an over-sized 15 hour package. On the plus side, the story is certainly gripping, the graphics look great and the sound design is some of the best in any video-game this year. Frustratingly, what begins as a really interesting and hellish dive into an adventurous mystery with horror elements quickly becomes bloated and bogged down, throwing in far too many unnecessary stealth sections and obfuscated puzzles....

Stranded at Sea Episode 7 of Summer Heat begins with Diego reflecting back on his past. Specifically, being with his brother Danilo and spending time together. It’s something that’s defined him throughout his life and after passing his lifeguard licences, he’s ready to honour his life. This doesn’t deter Catarina either, who remains by his side. Meanwhile, Yasmin has big opportunity and despite only starting to surf a while back, Maresia and Vilma want to put her name forward for some scouts....

A Solid Puzzle Game I love puzzle games. The Witness was one of my favourite games when it dropped on PS4 a few years back while Professor Layton gave me a great hand-held fix on public transport when it originally released back on the DS. Since then, I’ve dabbled in plenty of other titles this genre conjures up, some inevitably better than others. Superliminal then is a game that values quality over quantity and is all the stronger for it....

The Cursed Scales After Yeon’s romantic gesture, episode 6 of Tale of the Nine Tailed begins with Ji-A seeing straight through his façade and realizing that he’s actually thinking of A-Eum. She touches his face, asking him to see her for who she is now rather than what he presumes from the past. Yeon agrees, and the two walk together discussing the forest and the festival they’re attending right now. It turns out it’s actually quite a good spot to hide given the number of people celebrating....

Closing Down Rainbow Taxi Episode 15 of Taxi Driver begins back in 2001 where we see a small boy called Hyun-Soo watching the news, seeing the terrorist attacks on the twin towers. His Father happens to be Chul-Young, who’s a serial killer. He viciously murders his victim while saying goodnight to Hyun-Soo. This then cuts us back to the present, as a mail addressed from Chul-Young ends up in the police station....

A Fun, Forgettable Kart Racer Kart racers are tricky games to get right. Dwarfed by the mammoth success of Mario Kart and the recent release of Crash Team Racing, Team Sonic Racing is a surprisingly solid but ultimately forgettable addition to the genre. Taking the best elements from both of the aforementioned games, this Sega racer makes the most of its high-speed courses but is held back by some repetitive gameplay and a lack of variety with its tracks....
