The majority of the film takes place on one day: 30th March 1924. This is Mothering Sunday, a day when maids are given the opportunity to have a day off and visit their mothers at home. As Jane was orphaned as a young girl, she doesn’t have a family home to visit but the kindly Mr Niven allows her to have the day to herself anyway. Thankfully, Jane doesn’t have to be alone on this day as she has a secret lover, Paul Sheringham (Josh O’Connor), who is the only surviving son of a well-to-do family....

Confronting The Past My First First Love returns with episode 7, a slice of drama that begins with Tae-O helping the diner’s owner picking up the cups she dropped, not realizing she is his mother. Song I and Tae-O then leave the diner to go and watch the sunset together. We then flashback to the past where we see Tae’s family coming yet again to ask for money. They start breaking things and threaten her in the process....

Moving On Episode 14 of My Liberation Notes starts on a somber note as all the kids deal with the death of their mother. Everyone is there, mourning Hye-Suk in their own way. Je-Ho is silent but he’s in a state of shock, with tears stinging his eyes. As for Hye-Suk, the family have her cremated. The thing is, even in death, the memories and little bits of that person’s life are still around, like echoes of a life once lived....

On the surface, My Life As A Courgette looks like another throwaway animation, another “nice” film that comes and goes with little thought put into it. Thankfully, the film has enough nuance and emotion with it to make it a surprisingly hard hitting animation. The story is good too although the only gripe comes from its short length, at a little over an hour it feels like its over before it begins....

The Cult We begin episode 5 of Mythomaniac in Italy with the young man talking to his girlfriend about going away for a while. We find out his name is Lorenzo, which happens to be the same name Elvira has tattooed on her back. Meanwhile, Elvira is inundated by well-wishers, from neighbours and parents from school as they have found out about her cancer with the news report. After Patrick decides to cancel his photo festival, Brigitte speaks to him and offers to prescribe free medication for when Elvira goes through her chemo....

With a continued balance of comedy and drama, On My Block does a good job emotionally juggling its characters whilst delivering enough plot development through its 10 episodes to keep things from stagnating....

At the police station, Officer Geun-mo offers to take Ja-young to Sang-hyeon’s Cafe for a drink but she states she does not want one. However, Sang-hyeon arrives with coffees for everyone himself. He and Ja-young have a chat about his abrupt confession from the night before. Then, Sang-hyeon had asked Ja-young to keep thinking over his confession before she made a decision. Present-day Ja-young worries that her friendship with Sang-hyeon will be ruined....

Although it borrows heavily from other media forms, the execution is generally very good in this suitably dark sci-fi film. There are hints of influence from Black Mirror here, with a grim tone and a thematically strong plot proving once again you don’t need a big budget to tell a compelling story....

Our Beloved Summer Episode 9 Our Beloved Summer is a romantic k-drama centering around Choi Ung and Yeon-Su. These two broke up 5 years ago, off the back of a popular documentary filmed during their high school days. Free-spirited Choi Ung is pretty naïve and works secretly as a painter, adopting the alias of Ko-o. Meanwhile, Yeon-Su lives for her work. Inevitably, the pair cross paths once more in the present....

Dong-Seok and Seon-A; Yeong-Ok and Jeong-Jun Dong-Seok’s Goodbye As Our Blues returns for another episode, it appears we’re starting to interweave these different stories together. Episode 11 of Our Blues starts with Dong-Seok and Seon-A growing closer together, opening up about their past issues. Seon-A reflects on her father, and how she resents him for not telling her how hard and lonely his life was. However, that blame soon turns inward, as she brings up instances of regret that still haunt her to this day....

Han-Su and Eun-Hui 2 Episode 2 of Our Blues starts with an introduction to Sun-A, a carefree soul who plays on the beach with her friend, Dong-Seok. Unfortunately he gets mixed signals and leans over to kiss her. Sun-A is not happy and the mood is instantly killed. She asks him to drive her back to Seoul. On the way Dong-Seok tries to defend himself, pointing out they have feelings for each other....

The Phantom The season 1 finale of Outer Banks begins with Sarah leading John B to an abandoned house where they hide out until they can reconvene with the group down at the dock in the morning. The plan is to travel down to Mexico but the group is clearly fractured after the way Kiara handled Pope’s feelings the previous night. With the situation becoming desperate, Agent Bratcher from the SBI arrives to oversee the operation to track down John B....
