Calm Before The Storm? After the explosive opening episode of The Purge, the early excitement of the season has started to fizzle out as we return to normality. While there’s enough drama here to keep things moving at a consistent pace, this episode pales in comparison to what we’ve seen before, despite building the foundation for future drama to follow. Having been arrested, we begin with Tommy standing before the court after his post-Purge crime....

Middle Game Episode 4 of The Queen’s Gambit begins with Beth learning Russian, undeterred by her previous loss. After this game, she heads out with some guys from her Russian club, phoning home to let Alma know she’s staying the night. That leads to her first sexual encounter but it’s not exactly memorable. When she wakes up, everyone’s gone to Cincinnati to watch a movie so she decides to get some booze (and a handy spliff left by the guys there....

Things are going well for the most part. Nathan may differ with Angela’s conviction of the Satanic origins of Halloween, but they have a working system. Angela takes on most of the child care, while Nathan does farming and maintenance work on their land. But Nathan has a job to juggle as well. A Surprisingly Well Written Horror Horror is one of those genres that’s tricky to get right and even more difficult to avoid cheap tactics like jump scares to provoke fear. The Ritual is the latest horror effort to have a go at standing out from the masses and whilst the film certainly isn’t without its problems, there’s enough originality here to make it well worth a watch. Although The Ritual does show a little too much in the final act, spoiling the tension built up until that point, it can be forgiven thanks to a strong opening and middle act....

Tailored For Fans Documentary films are generally non-fiction pieces of work that educate, inform and help add more context to a situation or person that you otherwise wouldn’t have before watching. With that definition in mind, Look Mom I Can Fly is arguably the worst documentary of the year. It’s entertaining, make no doubt about it, but for those who have no knowledge of this singer and intend to jump into this to find out, Look Mom I Can Fly probably isn’t the best place to start....

Rather than a character from a cartoon, Ju Kyung instead compares herself to a character from a horror or cursed story....

She’s incredibly embarrassed after the incident with Soo-Hoo but they agree to remain tight-lipped about what’s going on. The pair sneak off home… but Jae-Pil is run off the property by Hyun-Sook. A forgettable intergenerational horror Watching Umma will almost certainly draw parallels to Pixar’s Turning Red. Granted, that’s a strange comparison to make, but right now there’s a whole wave of movies and shows tackling Asian culture and, in particular, Korean heritage. Whether that’s a direct result of movies like Parasite and shows like Squid Game hitting the US cultural zeitgeist is anyone’s guess. Specifically though, the theme that’s most closely examined is that regarding the bond between families....
