Love Is In The Air After last week’s dramatic set of episodes regarding the smallpox outbreak, we return to Rookie Historian this week for an injection of romance into the narrative. As Prince Lee questions his feelings toward Goo, the continued historical drama surrounding this forbidden love adds more depth and colour to proceedings. We begin with the Queen Dowager warning Prince Lee not to anger the King anymore. He agrees, before asking whether he can live outside the palace now that he’s turned 20....

Star Time The weird and wonderful Room 104 returns for episode 2 of Season 4 with the aptly titled “Star Time”. It’s an episode that works well to drive home the idea of addiction but does so in conventional Room 104 fashion. Some moments works really well but other times – like the questionable inclusion of a giant hamster engaging in oral sex – miss the mark completely. Before we get there though, the episode introduces us to Sam as she sits on a bed in our familiar motel room, eating chips....

Uncle George I mentioned it before in our full season write-up to Servant but this is a show that really should have been released in one hit. As a binge-watch, the suspense-building episodes work well against the drip-fed mystery. As a weekly watch however, Servant suffers a worse fate than Watchmen, delivering episodes that do little to push the plot forward and ultimately frustrate fans anxious for answers. Thankfully, this week is one that does offer a few answers, albeit in an agonizingly slow manner....

He’s already dipped out twice on her pregnancy but now they’re moving in together, it’s all going to be okay. Right? No, of course it won’t. We know how this turns out. Shooting Stars Episode 4 Shooting Stars is the latest drama to drop into a very crowded weekend line-up of K-drama content. This romantic drama has come under scrutiny last week for its depiction of Africa and it certainly doesn’t look good. The premise though (for those still sticking with this one!) whisks us into the entertainment world, where employees work around the clock to try and clean up the messes created by stars....

The Bag Of Money Episode 6 of Signs begins with Jonasz heading down to the lake with Dorota, who seems to know who murdered Martyna. Just like before, the victim has two bullet holes in their chest. All fingers point to Agata but as she sits playing computer games with Nina, she questions whether it was Radek who killed her. For now, it seems like she’s out the loop and doesn’t know anything....

A Simple But Enjoyable Sports Drama Skater Girl is a very simple sport drama. It’s a no-frills story about a girl overcoming adversity to pursue her passions. We’ve seen this plot play out a million times before, from films like Pursuit Of Happyness to Whiplash and Goal. While Skater Girl doesn’t reinvent the wheel, it does grind across its 100 minutes with a decent amount of fluidity. The story here takes place in the middle of Rajasthan village, a rural area playing home to poverty and patriarchy....

The Talent of Wretches Episode 2 of Sky Rojo Season 2 begins with Gina and Wendy scrambling into an abandoned cabin in the middle of the woods. They try to ring Coral but unfortunately Romeo picks up. Scrambling for a solution, the pair manage to bag themselves a shotgun and a bear trap. Held up together, Gina helps cauterize Wendy’s wound while the pair wait for the inevitable arrival of Christian and Moi....

The Original Sinners Episode 10 of Snowpiercer Season 3 starts with Melanie reflecting on how she’s shattered the dreams of many onboard the Snowpiercer. Her truth-telling has fractured the train once more, with those who believe in New Eden and those who don’t. In the wake of this growing threat, Wilford has capitalized and finds himself with Audrey, revelling in the coming battle. Despite the lie – which Layton owns – the old battle lines have have been drawn....

Years later, Kim Sum and Jung create a dating app named someone which helps people meet their soulmates. Kim Sum and Jung are even officiating weddings for their clients. From the outside, it looks like Kim Sum is living a great life but she is desperately lonely. She has no one to talk to apart from the app she created. Her only friend other than the app is Gi-eun who has not been visiting lately....

Lost At Sea Episode 16 of Start-Up begins with the reporter from Hyungju Daily newspaper asking Dong-Chun where Dal-Mi’s company are situated. As he heads there, Ji-Pyeong finds out about this reporter and realizes they’ve probably received a tip-off about the ransomware attack. He races up to their company as Dal-Mi and the others unwittingly divulge details about their company and the ransomware attack. In the wake of this, Do-San checks out the anagram solution and realizes this leads back to Shin Hyeon and Shin Jeong, something many people will have probably worked out by now....

This isn’t, by any stretch of the imagination, a good film. The direction is uninspired, the plotting is often contrived, the dialogue is ridiculous, and narrative logic is often thrown overboard. Does this mean that the movie isn’t worth a watch? Well, if you’re looking for a quality production, I would have to say yes. But if you’re looking for a movie to watch with your mates on a Friday night, your time might not be completely wasted, as this could be considered enjoyably trashy if you’re in the right frame of mind....

Chapter Five: The Nina Project Episode 5 of Stranger Things Season 4 starts with pure drama for our California crew. Agent Harmon is bleeding out and urges the kids to phone Owens and let him know. In order to do that, they need to get in touch with someone called ‘Nina’. Eleven was AWOL from episode 4 but she’s still with Dr Owens, being led out to the dusty ruins of Nevada....

The Fourth Floor After a week’s hiatus, we return to Strangers From Hell with episode 5 which opens with Jong-Woo passed out in his room. Feeling nauseous and spaced out, Moon-Zo chuckles to himself from the room next door as he whispers something to Deuk-Jong while our protagonist sleeps off the effects. After awakening some time later, Jong-Woo realizes someone has broken into his room, especially given the laptop didn’t have the clump of dust when he opened it....

Dissolving Sanity Following yesterday’s horror-lite episode, Strangers From Hell delivers a more tense slice of drama this time around, with some genuinely unnerving segments and a psychologically charged narrative taking shape. While the Jung-Hwa investigation still feels a little too disparate to Jong Woo’s storyline, there’s enough here to make for a much improved episode this time around. We begin with Moon-Zo taking Jong-Woo to the dentist and stitching up his mouth, making him uneasy by asking if he’s really a dentist or a serial killer....

The End Is Here Swamp Thing’s finale reinforces why we shouldn’t have cliffhanger endings for shows with uncertain futures. Following the disappointing news that DC Universe’s slick horror series would be finishing completely after its first season, Swamp Thing’s future was dealt a hammer blow early on, as far back as the second episode I believe, with fans persevering in the hope of a self-contained, slickly produced finale. While Swamp Thing does deliver a satisfying season finale, it does a terrible job resolving any of the plot points raised this season and leaves things wide open for a second season that, at the time of writing this, is almost certainly never going to come....
