Renewed Or Cancelled?
Welcome to Eden is the latest mystery box dystopian series on Netflix. The familiar setting of a desert island returns, bringing together several Spanish teens across short and pacey chapters.
What is Welcome to Eden about?
Welcome to Eden centers on a woman named Zoa who finds her life turned upside down when she receives a strange message from someone called Eden. Encouraged to hop across to a paradisiac island for an “immersive experience”, she soon finds herself caught in a nightmarish cult, where there appears to be no escape. With secrets hidden behind every corner, will Zoa and the others make it off the island in one piece? We do have coverage for Welcome to Eden across the site, including recaps for all episodes and a full season review for the first season. Feel free to check that out HERE!
Has Welcome to Eden been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, Welcome to Eden has been renewed for a second season! This is perhaps not surprising given other mystery box series of it kind, ala. The Rain and 3% have been renewed for additional seasons. Not only that but Welcome to Eden was trending on UK Netflix at number 5 of the most-watched shows during its opening weeks. Generally Netflix gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton & Irregulars) Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future. So far, Welcome to Eden has had a mixed reception from both critics and audiences alike, but fans should be delighted by this news. On May 25th, Netflix announced on the official Netflix Spain Instagram account that Welcome to Eden would be returning for a second season. Despite the post being in Spanish, the message reads that “The antennas have sent us a clear message, Welcome to Eden will have a second season”
What we know about season 2 so far:
Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point, given Netflix have only just green-lit a sequel. The conclusion does scream for more answers though. We could see Africa learn more about this antenna while trapped in that hidden room. Astrid and Erick are clearly going to play a big part in this too. Furthermore, we’ve got Gabi arriving on the island, stopping Zoa’s plan to escape, while that private investigator looks set to arrive on the island and stir things up. There’s certainly enough to whet the appetite for a follow-up! Would you like to see Welcome to Eden return for a second season? What did you think of the cliffhanger ending?
