Star Trek: Picard Season 3
It’s a good time to be a Trekkie! A new series of Star Trek: Discovery recently aired, Strange New Worlds has just made its debut, and plans have been announced for a fourth Star Trek movie which should be beaming onto our screens in December 2023. The second season of Star Trek: Picard has also just aired and while it wasn’t quite as good as the first, it was still an enjoyable series. Fans of Star Trek: The Next Generation will have enjoyed it more than most as it featured several old faces from that classic show. But what’s next for Jean Luc Picard and his crew? Will there be a third series? Or will he boldly go into retirement? Well, there’s good news and bad news for fans of the show.
Will Star Trek: Picard get a third season?
Star Trek: Picard is getting a third season! It was filmed back to back with season 2 and has already wrapped. There is even a trailer for season 3 so if you were worried that we were trying to play Borg-like tricks on your mind and give you false hopes, your fears can now be allayed!
When will we get to see season 3?
Updated information: the new season of Picard is currently slated to begin on February 12th, 2023 on Paramount Plus.
Who will be joining Picard in season 3?
Next Generation fans will be glad to know that LeVar Burton and Michael Dorn will be reprising their roles as Lt Commander Geordi La Forge and Worf respectively, and after making a brief appearance early on in the series, Jonathan Frakes will also be returning as William Riker. Marina Sirtis will be reprising her role as Deanna Troi and Brent Spiner will be returning as Arik Soong (but not Data). Wil Wheaton made a brief comeback as Wesley Crusher at the end of season 2 but we don’t know if he’ll be popping up in season 3 just yet. One actor that won’t be returning is Alison Pill as she recently confirmed that her character, Agnes Jurati, will not be a part of the third series.
What will the third season of Star Trek: Picard be about?
At this stage, your guess is as good as ours. In the season 3 trailer, Picard exclaimed “I am not a man who needs a legacy,” but how this relates to the overarching plot of the next series isn’t entirely clear. We know Picard will be reuniting with a lot of familiar faces from his past but we don’t know much more than this. When speaking to EW, Patrick Stewart had this to say about the upcoming reunion: Of course, more trailers will be released closer to season 3’s air date so more will be revealed then. For now, we can be glad that the returning characters will have “a function” and that they aren’t just being dragged in for nostalgia purposes. Or so we assume!
Will Star Trek: Picard live long and prosper?
Well…this is the bad news! Season 3 will be the show’s last so there will be no more adventures for Picard and his crew. It might be that we do get to meet up with Jean Luc again in future spin-offs or a Star Trek multiverse movie (in another universe, this has probably just been announced), but there won’t be a season 4 of Picard. Still, there’s no time to shed a tear. We still have the final season to look forward to, along with the other spin-off shows that have beamed down onto our streaming services, so there is no point grieving just yet. After all, it’s not as if the show’s creators have killed off any of the show’s main characters…not yet, anyway! Would you like to see Vampire in the Garden return for a second season?
