What is Only Murders in the Building Season 2 about?
Mabel, Charles, and Oliver live in the same building, the Arconia. In season 1, they met together to investigate the murder of Tim Kono, a fellow resident. They were brought together by their love for crime mystery podcasts and stayed because of the bond they built with each other. Season 2 picks up from the ending of season 1 where Mabel was suspected of murdering Bunny Folger, the Board President of the building. Their task remains solving the murder once again and free Mabel’s name from culpability. But they face stiff competition from the murderer who is always one step ahead and instead, does everything in their power to frame Mabel and plants evidence against her. Has Only Murders in the Building been renewed for season 3?
The answer is a resounding YES! Only Murders will be back for a season 3, which was confirmed on 11th July, right after the premiere was aired. Craig Erwich, President of Hulu Originals, said in a statement, “Only Murders in the Building is the true crown jewel of our slate. … We are grateful to be able to continue telling the stories of Charles, Oliver, and Mabel to viewers that have consistently shown us they crave more of this story.” Paul Rudd, as disclosed in the final minutes, will be joining the cast for the next season with Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short. What we do not know at this stage is if it will be in a guest capacity or a recurring capacity because his character is murdered in the final scene. The usual modus operandi for Only Murders has been in the aftermath of the murder solving it. Even Jayne Houdyshell, who played Bunny Folger, only appeared in a guest capacity in the season, except for the episode that was specifically about her character. John Hoffman, who is one of the creators of the show, remarked this about Rudd. “Paul Rudd, after making an auspicious entrance into the world of our show at the end of Season 2 as Ben Glenroy, is someone we clearly want to know more about and see in our upcoming Season 3 — as he is a clear source of many upcoming questions and, as ever with our show, many twists yet to come!”
What we know about season 3 so far:
The network is yet to release the exact dates for season 3’s premier. But considering that the first two seasons came in quick succession, a release by mid-next year is likely possible. There have been no revelations about the story, except the overwhelming possibility that Ben’s murder will be the central subject. There are hopes that Rudd will have a big role to play in the next season. Fans of the Hollywood star have already petitioned the network on social media to do so and it would be a waste to see Rudd in just a guest appearance. Fingers crossed for the same. As mentioned above, we’ll be sure to update this page in the future when more information is known though. Are you excited to see Only Murders in the Building return for a third season?
