What is Last Chance U: Basketball Season 2 about?
The first season did an excellent job keeping the usual Last Chance U vibes going but unfortunately was cut short due to a certain worldwide pandemic. Season 2 however, returns with a bang as Coach John Mosley returns with a brand new batch of youngsters, intent on putting them through the ringer and winning the State Championship. With fly on the wall cameras and 8 episodes clocking in at a little over an hour each, Last Chance U captures every up and down these kids face along the way. Unlike the first season, things here feel much closer to the desperate hope seen in something like Sunderland Til I Die, with the team struggling to find an identity and click together. The losses are trickling in, complacency is ready to strike at any moment and John starts doubting himself. Everything looks set to implode like never before. The second half of the season does change in tone and feel but that underlying layer of tension is rife all the way through every single game, which are beautifully shot and edited together. We have extensive coverage of Last Chance U: Basketball across the site, including a full season review. You can find that HERE!
Has Last Chance U: Basketball been renewed for season 3?
At the time of writing, Last Chance U: Basketball has not been renewed for a third season. Given the nature of the show’s content, that could well change if it does good numbers for Netflix. Generally Netflix gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton & Irregulars) Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future. So far, Last Chance U: Basketball has had a really good reaction from audiences and critics alike, with most commenting on how engrossing and well edited this series this. Given the way this show is set up, there’s definitely potential for a sequel, even if John Mosley himself hinted that there wouldn’t be in his final interviews within the show. There’s a lot of scope to follow the new crop of kids coming through at ELAC (East Los Angeles College) or even changing tact to focus on a different college team. We’re going out on a limb and predicting that this will be renewed for a third season and that it’s only a matter of time before we get that confirmation. We’ll be sure to update this section with accurate details over the coming weeks and months when we know more!
What we know about season 3 so far:
Barely anything is known about season 3 at this point, given Netflix have not green-lit a sequel. However, we could see the enigmatic John Mosley back to coach a new crop of kids, or even a completely different focus on a new team and crop of kids coming through. Of course, all of this is dependent on how the viewing figures are for Netflix, so we may have to wait and see. As mentioned above, we predict that this will be renewed but we could be completely wrong! We’ll be sure to update this page in the future when more information is known though!
