From its Worldwide and Anjunadeep spin-off compilations to flagship tours and signing innovative artists to the family, there’s no denying Anjunabeats is an exciting label, one that boasts a unique, genre-blurring sound that’s unlike anything else out there. Anjunabeats Volume 13 is the 13th compilation mix released from Above & Beyond, showcasing the latest tracks from the world of dance music and the Anjuna label. All of this blends progressive, melodic, euphoric, vocal and instrumental songs together in a 2 and a half hour journey through the world of dance music. The second disk is overshadowed by the first somewhat despite showcasing some of the latest remixes and tracks from the trance trio. Despite this, Anjunabeats Volume 13 is an impressively mixed showcase of music and the perfect accompanying soundtrack to all things trance in 2017. The first disk opens gently, with the hypnotically charming vocals of Dead End Thrills. This delightful track sets the tone and mood of the CD, swinging through a series of instrumental and vocal tracks increasing in tempo and drive as the mix reaches the latter stages. There’s an intelligently written journey at play here, helped along by some seamless harmonic mixing and a deliberately placed playlist, ending on a triumphantly euphoric note with Only Good Mistake and Andrew Bayer’s From The Past. The second disk wastes little time building up to the heavy hitting tracks, boasting a quicker tempo and a more club-geared emphasis. A heavy influence of well-know tracks from Above & Beyond’s exhaustive library make an appearance here too including personal favourite Alright Now and Maor Levi’s incredible remix of Sink The Lighthouse. While the second disk still makes for an ear-pleasing listen, it is overshadowed somewhat by the excellent first disk full of fresh and genre-defying sounds. The hands-in-the-air euphoric trance comes thick and fast in the second disk, dominated by strong vocals throughout the last hour before ending on iLan Bluestone’s remix of Above and Beyond’s On A Good Day. 2017 was an incredibly strong year for trance music, boasting an impressively diverse range of tracks across different sub-genres to showcase the evolving face of trance. While the second disk isn’t quite as strong as the first, Anjunabeat’s 13th volume showcases just why the Anjuna family is at the cutting edge of genre-defying sounds. Influences of house, progressive, techno and trance are all blended into 2 and a half hours of melodic dance music making for the definitive album for trance enthusiasts and fans of the Anjuna label.
